Ultra-Premium Extra Añejo Tequila | Limited Edition | Long-Aged 100% Blue Agave

Overview

Maestro Dobel 50 Extra Añejo represents the pinnacle of Maestro Dobel’s aged tequila collection. Created around founder and 11th-generation tequila maker Juan Dobel’s 50th birthday, the Dobel 50 series celebrates exceptional maturation, rare cask selections and the depth that can be achieved through extended ageing of premium tequila.

Unlike the clear Dobel 50 Cristalino, the Extra Añejo retains its beautiful natural amber colour and the full influence of its extended oak maturation. Dobel 50 Extra Añejo releases are produced from 100% Blue Weber agave sourced from a family-owned single estate in the volcanic lowlands of Tequila, Mexico.

The range is released in rare annual editions, with different batches exploring distinctive maturation and finishing regimes. Certain Dobel 50 Extra Añejo editions have been matured for a minimum of eight years, making them exceptionally old by tequila standards.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep amber with brilliant gold and copper highlights.

Nose: Rich and mature, with roasted agave, toasted oak and vanilla accompanied by caramel, honey and dried fruits. Deeper notes of toasted nuts, warm spice and mature wood develop as the tequila opens in the glass.

Palate: Luxuriously smooth and full-bodied. Cooked agave is enveloped by dark caramel, dried fruit and vanilla, followed by toasted nuts and warming oak spice. Extended maturation creates remarkable depth while maintaining a polished, silky texture.

Finish: Long, elegant and warming, with lingering toasted oak, gentle spice, caramelised agave and a subtle bittersweet quality.

The Dobel 50 Extra Añejo Collection

One of the most interesting aspects of Dobel 50 is that individual releases can feature dramatically different cask programmes. Examples include:

  • 1970 Edition: Minimum eight years in French oak followed by an Amarone wine cask finish.
  • 1971 Edition: Minimum eight years in French and Eastern European oak, finished in Japanese Shochu barrels.
  • 1972 Edition: Minimum eight years, incorporating toasted and charred American oak alongside Bushmills Single Malt Irish Whiskey casks.
  • 1974 Edition: Finished in Marsala wine and Moscatel sherry barrels.
  • 1975 Edition: Three vintages matured using combinations of American, European and French oak.

Because the specifications differ significantly between editions, the exact edition stated on the bottle should be included in the product title where possible.

Serving Suggestions

This is firmly a sipping tequila. Serve neat at room temperature in a stemmed tequila or whisky tasting glass and allow several minutes for the aromas to develop.

Its mature oak character also makes it particularly appealing to drinkers accustomed to aged Cognac, bourbon or mature single malt whisky.

Buyer’s & Collector’s Note

Maestro Dobel 50 Extra Añejo is considerably different from Dobel 50 Cristalino. The Extra Añejo retains its natural amber colour and places extended maturation and specialist cask finishing at the centre of the experience.

The annual limited-edition approach makes the range especially interesting for collectors, as individual releases explore casks as diverse as Amarone, Shochu, Irish whiskey, Marsala and Moscatel sherry.
