Soul Barrel Brewing Ale of Origin Oak Aged South African Sour Beer

Ale of Origin is a traditional spontaneous sour. Complex, acidity, funky, lively.

This spontaneously fermented edition of Ale of Origin is truly extraordinary. After brewing a laborious, old world turbid mash of local grains, the wort was boiled for three hours with aged hops, then cooled overnight in Soul Barrels "coolship" - a converted wine vat in the century old Sould Barrel Cellar. The open air inoculated the beer with wild yeast and bactaria from the surrounding fruit farms and brewery rafters.

The beer then undergoes a long, complex fermentation and three year aging period in large oak barrels. A careful blending of selected barrels realizes the final flavour. This method of brewing is inspired by authentic Belgian Lambic, one of the most traditional beers in the world. This beer is part of a journey to make beers with a sense of time and place that is truly South African.

This beer brings flavour notes of mango and orange, wild fruit, tart lemon acidity and yeast biscuit earthiness. Elegant honey and complex floral notes bring an uplifting midlayer, while the acidity lifts the finish, balancing the fruity esters while exciting the palate . The flavours are distinct and intesnse with complexity.

Delivery within South Africa:

All orders are shipped from our central warehouse located in Montague Gardens, Western Cape. Local orders are usually delivered in 0-2 working days. Orders outside of Cape Town but within SA are generally delivered within 2-5 working days. If you require expedited shipping, please feel free to contact us for a quote on Overnight Delivery, which typically takes 1-3 working days, depending on your area.

While we strive for timely deliveries, there are occasional instances where delays may occur. These are rare but can happen due to unforeseen circumstances.

Delivery Rates:

At checkout, you will be presented with shipping options and corresponding rates. These rates are provided directly by our courier partners and are displayed as is. On rare occasions, a courier may generate an incorrect delivery rate due to issues with the address recognition. In such cases, we will arrange for an alternative courier to ship your order at a similar rate to the original cost.

We believe in offering transparency in our delivery fees and, as such, do not include any delivery costs in our product pricing. We do not profit from delivery fees.

Third-Party Couriers:

For the majority of our orders, we rely on third-party courier services for delivery. Regular notifications will be sent and on the day of delivery the couriers will notify you via sms, call or email . If the courier is unable to reach you, we will get in touch with you to arrange an alternative solution.
