Restless River ‘Ava Marie’ Chardonnay 2022

Restless River is synonymous with authentic, elegant wine. Craig and Anne Wessels own and run this small family estate in the cool Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

Craig is committed to absolute site expression and a minimalist approach. Each vineyard on their farm is registered as a Single Vineyard and the wines are named after the vineyards.

Being terroir driven, the focus is on 100% single varietal wine: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. They also occasionally release a wine called Wanderlust – which changes every year and lays outside the core tenets of Restless River.

The soils are granite-based and our vineyards are positioned mid-slope at an elevation of 260m. The cold South Atlantic ocean is 5km away and acts as a giant air conditioner. These contribute to a purity of fruit and fresh acidity. This site-specific Chardonnay bears the name of its vineyard, only 2.06ha in size and is registered as a single vineyard. Slopes are mostly south and east facing. Shallow top soils vary from iron rich rocks to a light, sandy gravel. Below this is decomposed granite clay and quartz crystals, all contributing to a poised Chardonnay with texture and definition.

Vinification:
Specific parcels within the vineyard were hand-picked over a period of three weeks in February. The grapes were immediately placed whole bunch into our old Vaselin basket press. After a gentle four hour squeeze, the oxidised juice was settled overnight then racked into a variety of different sized French oak barrels (10% new) and unlined Tuscan terracotta amphora. Natural fermentation took up to 30 days after which sulphur was added for the first time and the wine was aged sur lie for 11 months. It was bottled after being racked into stainless steel to settle for 3 months and bottle-aged for 18 months.

All orders are shipped out from our one central warehouse in Montague Gardens in the Western Cape. Local Orders generally take 0-2 working days, deliveries outside of Cape Town, but withing SA are usually completed within 2 to 5 working days.

You will see different shipping rates at checkout. These rates are based on the products in your cart as well as your exact delivery address.

For out of Cape Town orders If the weight exceeds 25kg's there will be an excess delivery charge. We will notify you first before any excess charge is applied. If you wish to know the cost prior to placing your order please contact us.

If there is something wrong with your product we will refund the full 100% back to you.

If you placed an order and would like to cancel you can email info@mothercityliquor.co.za and we will assist with the cancellation process.

Cancellations have a small fee of 10% due to the transaction fees we incur on each order.

If an order has already been sent out to you the shipping fee is not refundable.

If something is wrong with the product you are able to return it to us.

If you'd like to return an item all you need to do is email us at info@mothercityliquor.co.za and we will assist with the return process.

Our returns policy lasts 7 working days. If 7 working days have gone by since delivery of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

The only types of goods are exempt from being returned are our Gift cards.

Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately sale/special items cannot be refunded.
