Domaine de la Grosse Pierre ‘La Grosse Pierre’ 2022 is a beautifully expressive 100% Gamay from Chiroubles, one of the ten crus of Beaujolais.

The domaine is run by Pauline Passot, the third generation of her family to work the estate. This particular cuvée comes from the domaine's home vineyards around La Grosse Pierre, with roughly 50-year-old vines planted at around 350 metres on deep, decomposed granite soils with an easterly exposure.

The winemaking is refreshingly hands-off: whole bunches, indigenous yeasts, semi-carbonic fermentation and extremely gentle extraction. The wine spends around eight months in stainless-steel and concrete tanks before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The result is proper Cru Beaujolais: juicy and immediately charming, but with enough structure and mineral character to remind you that Gamay can be a seriously good wine.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright ruby red with youthful purple highlights.

Nose: Generous and perfumed, with Morello cherry, red berries and blood orange, followed by floral notes, fresh spice and a subtle earthy mineral character.

Palate: Medium-bodied, juicy and energetic. Ripe red and dark cherry fruit is balanced by finely textured tannins, bright acidity and the mineral freshness characteristic of Chiroubles' decomposed granite soils.

Finish: Fresh and persistent with cherry, blood orange, gentle spice and a slightly savoury, almost smoky mineral note. Guide Hachette highlights the wine's rounded character and aromatic complexity, particularly as it opens with air.

Awards & Accolades

The 2022 received 92/100 from La Revue du Vin de France, while the Guide Hachette des Vins 2025 awarded it one star, denoting a vin très réussi (“very successful wine”). Guide Hachette also suggests a drinking window of 2026–2030
